I want
to thank the Flying Junior Slovenija for the greatly organized European
Championship. Everyone has been more than confident with the work of the fast
rising Slovenian Organization consisting of eight active boats already. The
Success of the event was mainly due to the fantastical social events.
Especially I want to point out the lunch after the races and the drinks every
day and evening.
As
the
social program was organized well, it wasn’t too hard to make the
sailing a
success all the same. The Race Committee around Bojan Gale did a great
job
making eleven races containing some wind and much sun possible. Also
the Jury
with Benno Loske, Koji Okabe, Andraž Koželj, Rodolfo Decleva and Guido
Piessens did a great job. Congratulation from this point to the
victorious team from Japan, Goshi Ueki and Takumi Ohkanuka and the
European Champion, Thorsten Willemsen and Dennis Tscherneck.

Day two:
July, the 29th, Tuesday. The answering penant on the club's tree told
us, that we're waiting the wind again! But the wind forecast for
today was stable NW wind up to 10 knots speed. And it actually blew! We
managed to make four races.
We started first race on litle smaller race field than yesterday.
Moderate NW was stable through the whole race. Crews started ok, while
one of them was unexpectedly found on the wrong side of start line in
the moment of the start. The first crew crossed the finish line was
japan crew, performing excellent sailing for all four races. The second
were Mathias an Enrico Riffeler who we used to see on the better
finish positions yesterday. The third was the crew of the boat Lignum
Vetus.
The second race started at 12:55 AM. Due to weaker wind we set smaller
race field than a race before. The japan crew won again, Dream
Machine followed them as second and Michael and Katharina Korsmeier
were third.
We started the third race doubting the wind will last to the end. But
it did! And it blew even the next race. Heiko and Claudia Riffeler
managed to finish it first, Goshi Ueki and Takumi Ohkanuka second
and Mathias and Enrico Riffeler third.
The fourth race started at 15:25. Two of the crews found out somehow
that pasta at the club was cooked already and turned their boats into a
club without racing fourth race. All others continued racing. Claudia
and Heiko Riffeler decided to win that one too, and no other managed to
prevent them that. The second were... oh yes! Japaneses. It seems they
like second place! But we now they can win too. The third were Ronald
Kalkhoven and Sonja Bok.
Slovenian crews are really special ones. On the result lists they
follow with a few exceptions one another starting with the last
one. They obviously decided, in manner to honour their
guests well to let them fight for first places. They are going to win
next year on the world championship anyway.
The evening continues practicing sport games and general entertainment.
Bar is opened till the last guest leaves and gues what... nobody wants
to be first! |

Day one:
On Monday, 28 th of July 2008, we started with first races of european
championship . The wind circumstances early in the morning made us to
postpone races set for one hour. Around 11:00 moderate NW wind began to
blow so we started with starting procedure of first race at 11:35 AM.
Start was executed corectly, without recals.
The german crew Heiko and Claudia Riffeler, members of SC Ville on the
boat named La Cosita finished first race as winner within 57 minutes
and 16 seconds. As a second, an japanese crew on boat Piramid crossed
finish line within 57 minutes and 46 seconds. The crew on boat Lignum
Vetus took a deserved third place within 58 minutes and 4 seconds.
The second race started at 13:05. Start passed through without recals
in a few knots stronger NW wind trying to reach 10 knots and lost few
of them during the race. The best performer of this race was a german
crew of Mathias and Enrico Riffeler who finished it in 1 hour and 11
seconds. 38 seconds later the winner of the first race followed them
through finish line, lefting the italian crew of Antonio Cicchine and
Massimo Ruffini on the boat Moruroa on the third place only one second
behind.
After a noisy and hot blooded finish of the second race in fading wind
we started the third race at 14:40 after we shortened the race
field. During race the weakened NW wind moved towards W, so we
had to set the reserve buoy. Desperately trying to succesfully
finish the last planed race with almost no wind in competitor's sails
we shortened the race and set the finish line on second, reserve
windward buoy. Chasing last seconds of the time limit ten competitors
succesfully finished race. The first boat, Dream Machine finnished race
in 45 seconds and 57 seconds lefting others far far behind. After long
14 minutes the second, Mathias and Enrico Riffeler crew followed them.
In next three minutes, another three boats came through finish with 50
seconds late Norbert Riefeller and Gudrun Korsmeier infront.
At 15:46, a long signal from start ship's horn finished todays set of
races. An importantly silent ones that finished last race listening
disapointed coments of those who didn't make it the crews turned their
boats back to a club on the shore. After solving a few protests,
jury officialy confirmed results.

Report from training in Ankaran (21.-23.03)
more pictures on FOTO |
We (Norbert, Gudrun, Michael and I) have just passed some nice sailing days in Ankaran, Slovenia.
Thursday afternoon we arrived at the club. It was sunny and the weather
seemed to continue like that. But the next day was cold and cloudy,
instead the wind was nice.
So much wind that we overturned for three times. The water was really cold. :-D
The next days were all windy and cloudy. And cold, 40km north there were about ten centimetres of snow. :-)
On the way home Michael an I made a snowball fight. Really funny ;-) |
